But the weather was bad. The plane tried to take off twice, but had to abort. On the third attempt, it crashed. Twenty-three people died, including eight players: Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor, Liam Whelan, Geoff Bent, and Duncan Edwards.

Edwards died 15 days later in hospital. He was 21 years old. He was going to be the greatest player England had ever produced. But he never got the chance.

The Aftermath

The crash devastated Manchester United. The team was decimated. The future was gone. But somehow, they carried on.

Matt Busby survived, but he was badly injured. He spent two months in hospital, fighting for his life. When he finally returned, he had to rebuild the team from scratch. But he did it. And ten years later, Manchester United won the European Cup. It was a victory for the Busby Babes, a tribute to the team that never got the chance to fulfill their potential.
